Changlang, Feb 15:  Continuing with their crusade against drug menace in Changlang district, a joint team comprising the District Administration, Civil Police, IRBn, GBs, Mahila Mandal and common people today undertook a special drive against illegal poppy cultivation in various villages under Diyun and Khimiyang Circles.
During the operation, as many as eight plots of illegal poppy cultivation measuring approx 3.2 hectares with raw opium poppy weighing 1535 kgs approx were destroyed at Sompoi village under Diyun Circle and Longsang and Thamlom villages under Khimiyang Circle. 
Two special teams for the purpose were constituted, one each for Diyun and Khimiyang. The Diyun team was led by EAC Diyun Jacob Tabing and SDPO Miao Tasi Darang along with OC Diyun Inspector PK Kalita and  SI RK Yein. Two plots of illegal poppy cultivation measuring approx 1918 sq mtrs were destroyed at Sompoi village under Diyun Circle. Another team led by DSP Changlang T Tangha, OC Changlang CA Namchoom with OC Khimiyang ASI L Bolok and administrative officials destroyed two plots of illegal poppy measuring approx 1050 sq mtrs with raw opium poppy weighing 75 kgs at Longsang village. 4 plots measuring approx 29,450 sq mtrs with 990 kgs of raw opium poppy were also wiped out  at Thamlom village under Khimiyang Circle. 
One case has been registered at Diyun PS where two accused are arrested and two cases have been registered at Khimiyang PS under the NDPS Act against the illegal cultivators.
Earlier on February 12 , Miao team destroyed around 450 sq mtrs of illegal poppy at Namphai-II under Miao Circle where one case was registered at Miao PS against the illegal cultivator. The entire operations were carried out under the overall command of DC Changlang RK Sharma and SP Mihin Gambo. DIPRO
