BANDERDEWA, Dec 29: In a day long search operation carried out by forest and police personnel of Banderdewa Forest Divison and Doimukh Police station at Midpu Check Gate on Friday, full body wild animals such as deer, civet, mongoose and several jungle fowls were caught along with meat and carcasses of wild squirrels, birds, deer, etc. In a first, a man was also nabbed with about 2 kgs of Pangolin scales. Pangolin is one of the most trafficked wild animals across the world.
All the offenders along with seized vehicles were arrested and booked under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and handed over to the police. All the seized wildlife animals and meat were later destroyed by burning.
During the search operation, illegal timbers along with trucks and two bags of ganja were also detected and seized and further investigations are being carried out by forest and police officials respectively.
DFO T Sira said full credit for this successful operation must go to the frontline staff of state forest and police force and he further thanked the general public for their cooperation and support during such search operations.
The search team was led by Tasso Sira, DFO Banderdewa Forest Division and ACF Mito Rumi with support of local civil administration, Magistrate on duty Mokar Riba SDO Doimukh and Kambi Ronya, OC Doimukh PS. The forest team also comprised of RFOs D. Dastidar, C Buru, Chucku Tanya, Tanga Murtem  and Dy. FRs B Tarang and D Nath.
