TAWANG, Jul 11: In a heart-wrenching incident two girl students lost their lives and two were seriously injured when hostel wall collapsed on the sleeping children early this morning at around 3.15 am at Government Residential Upper Primary School, Namtsering village under Dudungkhar Circle of Lungla Sub Division in Tawang district.
There were a total of 19 girl students sleeping in the hostel when the incident occurred. The wall of the hostel building couldn’t resist the landslide that occurred due to incessant rain which had been continuing for the last many days. Rescue efforts were immediately initiated by the warden and other teaching staff with the help of villagers which helped in rescuing the other students unhurt, although one suffered minor injuries.
The students who lost their lives were Genden Wangmu of Class Six, aged 10 years, and Rinchin Lhamu of Class Five, aged 10 years.
SP Tawang, ADC Lungla along with SDMO immediately rushed to the spot, while the officials from the Education Department and District Administration also visited the family members of the children and teachers of the school. Mortal remains of the two children were sent to Khandro Drowa Tsangmo District Hospital, Tawang for post mortem and the injured were referred for further treatment at District Hospital Tawang after first aid was admistered at CHC Dudungkhar.
