ITANAGAR, Apr 27:In a first, the Guwahati University will be conferring Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate Degree) during  its 26th Convocation to Nabam Tata, a social activist from Arunachal Pradesh in recognition of his contribution in popularising, preserving and promotion of the rich traditional culture, art and folk music of the State by the Gauhati University on Friday.

It is worth mentioning that Governor PB Acharya has been advising the Universities to recognize the people who contribute towards the welfare of society in their personal capacities. He emphasized that the efforts of these people in various fields particularly in preservation and promotion of indigenous tribal culture and traditions and environment must be acknowledged.

Acharya, when he was the Governor of Assam and also Chancellor, Gauhati University had asked the University to confer honorary degrees to dedicated people in different fields.

Tasile N. Zeliang from Nagaland will also be conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree for her work in the field of education, sports and social service.
