ITANAGAR, Sep 2: Students of the Himalayan University under the banner of Himalayan University Students’ Union (HUSU) resorted to protest in front of the university after reports of ‘degree for sale’ surfaced in media.
Hundreds of students with banners shouted slogans against the university authority. President of HUSU, Giogi Tania said “this is not the first instance where allegations have been leveled against the university and this time we demand clear justification from the university authority.” University authority should provide the details of students who are pursuing different courses and an interim vigilance committee comprising students, professors and administrators as its members should be constituted immediately, Tania reiterated. Moreover, we also demand that university’s offices in Delhi and other cities should be closed down followed by enquiries against the authorities, HUSU President added.
Meanwhile, Registrar of Himalayan University, Vivek Mittal has clarified that the university is not involved in such illegal activities and authority will soon take action against the culprits and file FIRs in Delhi and Itanagar police stations. “No official from the university is involved in such illegal activities and it is the handiwork of a third party against whom action will be taken,” Mittal added.
