ITANAGAR, Dec 3: Faculty of Management, Himalayan University organized a symposium on “Innovation and Strategy”. The key note speaker was Dr Bijoylaxmi Sarmah, Professor, NERIST.
The symposium was inaugurated by Registrar Dr Vivek Mittal, Director D Bagra and Assistant Director P Gagoi.
In the inaugural address, Dr. Mittal said that that innovation and entrepreneurship are important to address major developmental challenges, such as inclusion, sustainability, and shared prosperity in Arunachal Pradesh. He said that the key to solve the problem of unemployment is innovation and entrepreneurship. “We have to find out new ways to explore the potential of Arunachal Pradesh in tourism and bamboo,’ he added.
Before the key note address, students of MBA presented various business plans. A group of students presented to launch a portal to sell bamboo products while another group proposed developing a tourist hub at Poma River. One group gave the idea of industrial manufacturing of beer from rice.
After the presentation of students, the key note speaker Dr. Sarmah gave a presentation on “Innovation and strategy”. She gave examples of Facebook, YouTube, Google, Twitter and Second Life, etc. She further said that core competence of Arunachal Pradesh is bamboo and we should develop a proper eco system for Bamboo industry. She gave the example of IKEA Furniture and said that in the same way we should develop a whole system of innovation, production, logistics and sales of bamboo furniture and gift items. This will generate employment and wealth for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.  
Mr. Jamal Hussain, HoD, Faculty of Management, proposed the vote of thanks. He said that few students of faculty of management will certainly become entrepreneurs and will generate employment.
