ITANAGAR, Feb 9: Papum Pare district, as a part of a 100 days campaign programme for strengthening the ecosystem for MSME sector launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 2, 2018 got the status of a focussed district in handloom sector in Arunachal Pradesh out of a targeted 100 districts.
According to 4th census a total of 6498 weavers and 612 allied workers are involved in handloom weaving. During the Outreach and Support Programme, extensive campaign was undertaken to generate awareness about various handloom schemes and to extend different benefits to handloom weavers and accordingly 4007 weavers & allied workers are enrolled for different interventions.  Handloom weavers are provided credit at concessional rate under concessional credit component of National Handloom Development Programme. In this regard weavers were mobilised in the camps for availing loan through different banks and so far 989 weavers are enrolled for MUDRA loan. 
During the campaign programme handloom weavers were briefed about the main features of Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). So far 478 weavers were enrolled under the schemes. Awareness camps-cum-enrollment of beneficiaries were carried out by the departments through village and cluster approach. One mega event namely Hastkala Sahyog Shivir was also conducted at festival ground of Directorate of Art & Culture, Naharlagun on January 16 , this year and enrolled large number of beneficiaries.  
In this direction, a state level event was  organized at Itanagar today for felicitation of weavers, disbursement MUDRA loan, issuance of Pehchan card and Yarn passbook, registration for NIOS course etc. followed by workshop. Resource persons were present from various departments to disseminate schemes and benefits of Govt. of India. 
Furthermore, a central level event will be organized at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi on February 13, where potential women, SC/ST, physically challenged weavers and new entrepreneurs has been invited for felicitation and award. Selected handloom products of the district will also be showcased at Arunachal Bhavan, New Delhi on February 11 & 12 followed by the main exhibition at Dr.Ambedkar International Centre on February 13.
