ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The Galo Students’ Union (GSU) has strongly objected the recent order issued by the Commissioner PWD, GoAP instructing the shifting of the post of Executive Engineer (Hq), Aalo in West Siang district with men & materials to Raga PWD Division under Kamle district.
In a press release issued today, GSU stated they are not against the creation of PWD Division & any other HoDs in the new districts, but is specifically against the shifting of existing post from West Siang along with men & materials to other district which has been ordered (vide No. SPWD-013/2003-04 Dated Itanagar the 23rd January 2020). Calling the move a step-motherly treatment to the people of West Siang, the union has stated that if the state government is keen to create any HoDs and bring development to the new districts, it should create & sanction the required post for the purpose without depriving any other district. GSU has urged the Commissioner PWD, GoAP to reconsider the decision & cancel the order as early as possible, failing which, it along with all stakeholders will launch a series of democratic movements shortly.
The release further said from reliable sources it has come to GSU’s knowledge that state government is also contemplating shifting of the Zonal Hospital, the proposed Para Medical Institute & SIRD Extension Training Centre from Aalo to other district(s) besides shifting of EE PWD (Hq). Expressing concern over the state government’s discriminatory attitude towards the Galo community, the union had also pointed out that Aalo, although being one of the oldest towns in state, is still lacking basic developmental activities. State government is requested to consider Aalo as a part of Arunachal and initiate equal developmental activities including the entire Galo inhabited areas, the release appealed. State’s Chief Minister & MP Kiren Rijiju should give special importance to West Siang as all the 3 elected representatives of the district viz 31-Aalo East, 30-Aalo West & 27-Liromoba are from the ruling BJP. It has also urged all these legislators to raise their concern at government level, since they are the elected representatives of the people of the district.
GSU announced to hold a peaceful protest march/rally during VVIP/VIP visit at the Yomgo River Festival 2020 at Aalo if the Commissioner PWD and the state government fails to act promptly to stop shifting the PWD EE (Hq) to Raga, the release said. GSU PR
