Aalo, Feb 7: Galo Students’ Union (GSU) today observed a peaceful sit-in here at Nehru Chowk (Paktu) to protest against state government’s recent decision to shift the EE (HQ) office from Aalo to Raga and also to press forward its other demands concerning the developmental needs of West Siang district.
The peaceful dharna was held to register GSU’s strong resentment over state government’s lackadaisical attitude in distribution of developmental funds to the people of West Siang.
Besides revocation of the EE office shift order, it had also been protesting against the inordinate delay in construction of Akajan to Bam Road under TAH and demanding early operationalization of Zonal General Hospital Aalo, early establishment of Para Medical Institute at Kombo and early commencement of SIRD Extension Training Centre (ETC) at Darka.
Adviser GSU Reken Ingo lamented state government’s step-motherly treatment to the people of West Siang in general and Aalo in particular in terms of developmental fund distribution. He urged the elected representatives of West Siang to work jointly for the interest of the district and appealed the government to bring development in the district at par with the rest districts of the state.
Chairman of the Dharna Organizing Committee Jumdak Taso declared the future course of action if authorities fail to pay heed to their demands, adding that GSU would intensify the movement in coming days and appealed all stakeholders to extend their cooperation whenever required.
Ex-Minister and Chairman ATPDWS Kento Ete also lamented state government’s lackadaisical attitude and warned of rigorous democratic movement with GSU in coming days in case of non-fulfilment of demands. President Abotani Clan Organization, West Siang Unit Mili Ori also appealed the state for early redressal of the demands placed by GSU for the greater interest of the district.
The dharna was supported by various social organizations like ATPDWS, Mother's Vision, ATCO West Siang Unit, Paktu Ao Youth Welfare Association, Aalo Area Students’ Union, HHSU, KKSU and DPGC Kamki Students’ Union. GSU PR
