NAMSAI, May 11: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday visited the Covid Care Centre and Quarantine Facility at Parshuram Kund accompanied by the MLAs of Namsai and Lekang, Chau Zingnu Namchoom and Jummum Ete Deori respectively to have a first-hand information of the facilities created for Wakro Circle.
During a briefing and discussion session, Mein advocated for observing social distancing, wearing mask, regular hand washing, and sensitizing people through IEC about Covid-19 and opined that economic activities in the state should not suffer due to the pandemic and at the same time, fight against the pandemic must also continue. He advised the District Administration to find out a mechanism at the check gates for priority checking and hassle-free movement of medical and other essential services. He further added that for smooth return of the state’s stranded people, there is need for an orderly arrangement of registration, screening, testing and quarantine facilities in every entry point and opined for a phase-wise plan to tackle the influx of returnees.
While highlighting the importance of adopting the strategy of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) to spread awareness on Covid-19 at villages, DCM informed that necessary directives/guidelines would be issued soon from the Planning Department to enable the MLAs to utilize their MLALAD fund for any work related to containment of Covid-19 since there are requests from many MLAs regarding permission to use the said fund.
Mein instructed the DA to prepare a data base of the outside people stranded within the district for their safe return.
DCM said it is necessary to extend the validity of ILPs to the stranded people inside state or those working with expired ILPs. Commenting on the apprehensions raised by people regarding probable entry of virus into the state through asymptomatic military & paramilitary forces, he said Home Department will be requested to take up the matter with appropriate authorities for enforcement of quarantine & testing of forces in their respective Brigade or Battalion Hq before deployment. Lauding the efforts of the DA, doctors, nurses, police, NGOs and the people of Wakro & Medo in fighting the pandemic, Mein urged the BJP karyakartas to reach out to the people at remote places to disseminate information and awareness on Covid-19.
Later, the team inspected the quarantine centre at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mahadevpur and interacted with the students and people under quarantine. DCM Media Cell
