PASIGHAT, Dec 12: The Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) in a press release has urged the state government to bring a tangible solution to the long pending demand of Adi communities to restore the Korang Circle in East Siang District while removing the status quo maintained after bifurcation of Lower Siang from East Siang District.
Claiming that it already submitted a report of social and historical facts and reasoning, it appealed the state government to notify the September 2017 last cabinet decision in the ensuing December 2018 cabinet meeting and restore Korang Circle under East Siang district, as traditionally, landowners are the Adis.
“AdiSU has never opposed the creation of Lower Siang district; rather we had welcomed it for the administrative convenience of the government. However, we will defend the ownership of the land of the Adis and uphold its interest at any cost. If Government fails to do so, AdiSU will hold an indefinite democratic movement across Adi inhabited areas of the state”, said AdiSU President Nang Gao.
The lack of clear-cut decision over the issue is creating administrative inconveniences for the people which should be addressed at the earliest, he further asserted.
