ITANAGAR, Apr 2:The All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) has once again appealed to the concerned authorities of the transport department in general and the chief minister in particular to initiate steps to regularize the contingency workers who have been rendering their services to the department for more than a decade.

Aggrieved by the fact that despite submitting several memorandums and representations to the authorities concerned and chief minister’s office, no concrete step has been taken so far in this regard, the federation president Dobing Sonam in his appeal said, “it was high time that the government regularized the aggrieved workers, so that they get what they are worthy of, after serving the state for such a long period of time.”

Most of the workers in the directorate of transport have been rendering their valuable service for the department since its establishment as contingency staffers and they are still doing so religiously. There are workers who have been in the department since 1997. Though, the department alone provides a turnover of Rs 25 crore per annum to the state exchequer, most of its employees, right from a peon to an LDC are still stuck, either on contingency or on functional basis. This is despite of the fact that most of them have been appointed after a proper selection process, Sonam said.

The federation further appealed to the government to take the appropriate steps soon by creating the required posts and regularizing the deserving persons.
