ITANAGAR, Apr 23: President in-charge for the State Consumer Dispute Commission (SCDD), Justice HN Sharma today urged the state government to provide necessary support to the Legal Metrology department to strengthen its activities for the welfare of consumers. He was speaking on the occasion of induction ceremony of Consumer Rights Organization Arunachal Unit at a city hotel.
Terming it a ‘red letter day’, he said the coming of a national based organization to check and balance consumers rights will be of great help to denizens. There are many issues where the organization can work on and sensitize the people, he said.
‘Commodities cannot be charged above the MRP but yes it can be charged below the MRP,’ he added while appealing consumers to be more alert.
Speaking on the occasion as a resource person, Public Liaison Officer (PLO) to CM Techi Nera said, the state at present needs to intervene on skyrocketing prices of various commodities in the market. He asked the CRO-AP unit to act on the general issues faced by innocent consumers. He also assured to apprise the government about the grievances of the organization and concern department on various issues.
While briefing the gathering on motive behind the formation of CRO, state President Achu Bagang informed that Consumer Right Organization is a pan India organization working for the protection of consumers from exploitation. He also informed that CRO-Arunachal unit will soon launch a 24 X 7 helpline to address consumer grievances.
Among others, Legal Metrology Registrar Marbom Daro, President AAPSU Hawa Bagang, Professor Nani Bath and Gaon Burahs of nearby villages as well as heads of the NGOs also attended the programme.
