YUPIA, May 25: About 48 metric ton of fish were sold during the lockdown period within the capital complex with the support of local fish farmers and about 7 million fish seed has been produced so far in the government  fish farm at Emchi.
The distribution process will be continued in a phased manner till July and the fishery department has enough fish seeds to meet the demands without importing it from neighboring states.
This information was shared by the DFDO, Yupia, Kipa Taja during a free fish seed distribution event themed  "An Initiative Towards Maximizing Fish Production" organized here today.
In the event, Tage Taki, Minister Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary & Fishery distributed 1,50,000 free fish seeds, lime, and formulated fish feed to 150 progressive fish farmers of the Papum Pare district.
Tana Hali, MLA, Doimukh constituency, and  Joyshil Taba, Director Fisheries attended the event which was organized by District Fisheries Development Officer, Yupia.In his address, Taki emphasized to the youth of the state to adopt the pisciculture and other agro-related activities commercially to achieve self-reliance.

In addition, he emphasized the benefits of self-employment in the region for healthy income generation and assured to provide all necessary support.
Tana Hali, MLA Doimukh Constituency encouraged the fish farmers about the importance of aquaculture and the health benefits of consuming fresh fishes.
Assistant Director of Fisheries, Emchi, Circle Officer, Gumto, DIPRO, Yupia, and other officials of the department were present on the day.
