PASIGHAT, Mar 14:

Governor BD Mishra in the final leg of his three-day four district tour visited the Hansen’s Disease Sanatorium, Pasighat today. Established during the NEFA period in 1960s, the sanatorium catered leprosy cases under the aegis of Sreemanta Shankar Mission, Assam before it was taken over by the State Government. 

In order to recommend necessary steps to the Government, the Governor interacted with the officials of leprosy programmes and also interacted with a leprosy patient.

East Siang District Medical Officer Dr. M. Perme and District Leprosy Officer Dr. Tarik Talom briefed the Governor and the First Lady of the State about the facility. State Nodal Officer for Leprosy programme Dr. Reema Das Tabyo and Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the Governor also visited Jawaharlal Nehru College, the oldest institute of higher studies in the State established in the year 1964.

Interacting with the students, the Governor advised them to prepare themselves for the future challenges and sustenance. He further emphasised that the students must instil knowledge and proficiency to go for entrepreneurship and self-employment.

The Governor also informed that there will be pre-recruitment trainings and coaching conducted by the Indian Army and the all the youth must avail the opportunity.  He asked the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in-charge of the College Captain (Dr.) K.K. Mishra, Lecturer (Geog) to motivate the cadets and also other students to join the Army.

Earlier, the Governor visited the Government Poytechnic College, Pasighat and met the students and faculty.

The Governor also visited the College of Horticulture & Forestry, Pasighat.

Later on the day, he released two publications, ‘Production Technology of legume vegetables’ and ‘Rainwater harvesting and its management for horticultural crops’.  

Before returning to the State Capital, the Governor also visited both factories of Elam Industries, the first mechanised textiles industry of the state.
