ITANAGAR, Apr 12:

Governor PB Acharya has called upon the people of the State to work with spirit of ‘Sabke Saath Sabka Vikas’ addressing the challenges of every section of society.

Expressing concern for the Puroik community, the Governor called for expediting the constitution of the Autonomous Puroik Welfare Board as per the two Government Committee reports at the earliest.

‘As Guwahati High Court has already made specific ruling on the issue, the recommendations of the two High Powered Committee reports have to be implemented as early as possible,’ he said hoping that the State Cabinet and concerned officers follow the recommendations.

The Governor has suggested for a Board consisting of seven members from the community, i.e. three elders of the community from the place of origin, two persons from younger generations and two women members.

Referring to his address in the eleventh session of Sixth Legislative Assembly on 6th March 2017, the Governor has also written to the Chief Minister for the seven-member Autonomous Puroik Welfare Board.

‘We have provided opportunities to the Puroik community to enable them to come at par with other communities. It is high time that we come out of our earlier suppressive and superiority mindset,’ the Governor opined.

As an initiative from his side, the Governor has initiated ‘Home Stay’ for 20 (twenty) Puroik youth to Mumbai and free accommodation and tuition 3 (Three) year Nursing Course for four Puroik students in the Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodubidire, Karnataka through India National Fellowship Centre, Mumbai. The State Government will be the facilitator and bear the annual to and from journeys and part of food charges.
