ITANAGAR, Mar 10: Expressing grave concern on the menace of drug addiction in the State, Governor PB Acharya called upon the people to fight against it and take necessary precautions to keep the younger generations away from the vice.

The Governor emphasized that teachers, guardians and parents, particularly mothers have to keep more vigil on their wards. He also advised the guardians to cooperate with anti drug campaigners in their crusade.

In order to motivate people and organizations working for eradication of drug addictions and rehabilitation of addicts, the Governor has granted an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs to Adi Bane Kebang and another Rs. 4 lakhs for Mother’s Vision (MV), Aalo as an encouragement in their fight against drug addiction. The amounts sanctioned are for procurement of vehicles for campaign works and will be released only when rest of the amount of the vehicle cost is met by the respective organizations.

While appreciating the two NGOs, the Governor advised the members to work harder towards a drug free society. He expressed his anguish that many promising youths particularly school and college going children are in the grip of this vice.

The Governor also advised the NGOs to create awareness regarding about Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and other essential programmes and policies, so that the benefits of these central government schemes percolate to the poorest of the poor and targeted populace.
