ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today admitted a six-year old daughter of a poor widowed labourer to Government Primary School in capital’s ‘B’ Sector, whom he chanced to meet a few days back. 
Manisha Munda, the child was admitted in the nursery section of the school, where she will now receive free education including uniforms, books and mid-day meals.
The said school is undergoing further development under the Governor’s aegis with allocation of a Raj Bhavan officers’ quarter to ensure a room for each class. After encountering the chance meet with the little girl while she was on her way to buy biscuits for her younger brother holding a 10 rupee note, a tale of woes unfolded before the Governor. It was revealed that she was one of four siblings of Pinky Munda, a poor widow who toils as a manual labourer to make both ends meet and had never been to school. He immediately directed his staff to inquire  the details and when it further transpired that her elder brother, Manoj aged 8 years also doesn’t go to school, the Governor decided to admit all the three siblings in the Government Primary School today.
Governor also gave a cheque of rupees ten thousand from his personal account and on his request, the State Bank of India has opened Manisha’s Fixed Deposit Account, the proceeds of which will be available when she attains the age of eighteen years.
An ardent supporter of the concept of ‘Beti Bachoa Beti Padhao’, the Governor appealed to the people, particularly the public leaders, senior bureaucrats and financially well-off people to come forward and support schooling of poor children of the state.PRO Raj Bhavan
