ITANAGAR, Mar 15: The Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) has extended its gratitude to the State Government for the timely approval of enhanced Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for the regular state government employees and pensioners.
Speaking to the media here at the Arunachal Press Club on Friday, Secretary General CoSAAP Gonya Riba stated that the recent decision to increase the Dearness Allowance by 4%, bringing it up to 50% from the previous 46%, is a commendable step towards alleviating the financial burden on employees and pensioners amidst the ongoing market inflation. CoSAAP acknowledges the government's proactive approach in addressing the needs of its workforce and retirees,he added.
Moreover, the revision in House Rent Allowance (HRA) to 10% of the basic salary, in accordance with Government of Arunachal Pradesh Order No. FIN/E-1U08/2013/587 dated January 6, 2023, is also a welcome move that will provide additional support to employees, stated the General Secretary CoSAAP.
CoSAAP also appreciated the government's commitment to aligning Tough Location Allowance (TLA) with Central Government standards, with a 25% increment on the existing TLA for state government employees. This decision reflects the government's responsiveness to the unique challenges faced by employees working in tough terrains.
While acknowledging these positive steps, CoSAAP reiterated its longstanding appeal for the scrapping of the National Pension Scheme (NPS) and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The lack of guarantees for the welfare and security of employees and their dependents under NPS necessitates urgent action to safeguard the financial interests of the workforce post retirement.
Furthermore, President CoSAAP Women Wing Leena Taggu urged the State Government, particularly the Home Department, to ensure the provision of adequate security forces to employees engaged in election duties during the forthcoming general and assembly elections of 2024.
The impartial conduct of election duties by employees is crucial for the democratic process, and CoSAAP calls upon all candidates and their supporters to cooperate with government employees and refrain from targeting them during the electoral process, she appealed.
