TAWANG, Apr 16: Gorkha XI avenged their winter cup final loss to MES by beating them in the finals of Tawang T20 champions cricket league by 1 wicket at Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso high altitude sports stadium on April 13 last.
A disciplined bowling and fielding display by the young Gorkha brigade restricted MES to a below par total of 110 runs. Cruising comfortably, chasing a visibly accessible target, the Gorkha ship was found rocking as it lost wickets frequently. MES held onto their nerves, and made a strong comeback picking up 8 quick wickets.
With their back exposed and still 58 runs to win with two tail enders at crease, the game was predictably in MES's lap. But cricket as unpredictable it can be, saw a dramatic turn with the tail enders crossing over the line and clinching the coveted trophy by 1 wicket. In the end, some poor fielding and undisciplined bowling had cost MES the trophy.
Tawang DC Sang Phuntsok, who also witnessed the nail biting contest with Mukto Anchal Chairperson and Tawang sports Association chairman Namgey Tsering, congratulated and did the honours joined with other dignitaries from GREF and GE.
The tournament participated by 15 teams was organized by Tawang sports Association and sponsored by Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu, RWD cum SDE Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi and Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi.
