ITANAGAR, Mar 20: The Galo Indigenous Faith and Cultural Council (GIFCC) extended gratitude to the state government and the Department of Indigenous Affairs for the inclusion of two more festivals of the Galo Community, along with Mopin, in the local indigenous festival list of the state government.
Recently, the state government issued a notification listing indigenous festivals of Arunachal Pradesh. In this list, the state government has included two more festivals along with the Mopin festival of the Galo community, which are 'Donyi Mari' and 'Xwrmen Bangi Aloo'.
Speaking to the media at the press club on Wednesday, President GIFCC Dr.Emi Rumi said the Galo Indigenous Faith and Cultural Council, is very happy and grateful to the state government, the concerned department, and also the people involved in framing this work.
"Like Mopin, our forefathers also celebrated Donyi Mari in the Galo dominated areas for spirituality, peace, prosperity, equality, etc., which is celebrated on the 5th of November," he added.
Dr. Rumi also mentioned that earlier, the middle of Autumn (Lubo Polo) on the 15th of October was the date of the Xwrmen-Bangi Celebration. But due to the change in weather, the expert committee on Xwrmen-Bangi had recommended the 5th of November as a suitable date for the Xwrmen-Bangi Celebration, which was accepted by the society.
He further added that the Galo community celebrated all three festivals, like Mopin, Donyi Mari, and "Xwrmen-Bangi," ritually by following the practices maintained by the forefathers.
