Khonsa, Apr 17: As a part of the ‘Mask India Campaign’, Tirap District Administration on Friday carried out mass distribution of masks/sanitizers to the health workers, police personnel/SBI staff, shopkeepers, labourers, taxi drivers, government employees and common people in various locations of the district.
Till date, a total of 3750 masks have been distributed free of cost by the DA and w.e.f. April 15, locally grown organic vegetables are being made available through the local traders of different villages. Essential commodities are being distributed at the doorsteps in rural areas of the district by the department of District Food & Civil Supplies in coordination with the Disaster Management Department and the magistrates on duty.  This  included  distribution of free LPG cylinders under PMUY to 21 villages on a rational basis. Rice had been distributed to the stranded labourers and both non-ration card and general ration card holders.
Under PMGKAY, free rice was distributed to the BPL families for the month of April/May and 53.18 beneficiaries were benefitted as on April 17 and Rs. 1000 had been transferred to all PHH and AAY card holders through  DBT (Direct Bank Transfer). Department of Disaster Management till Friday had provided essential commodities to 796 daily wages earners which included construction workers,  Kashmiri cloth sellers etc. Earlier, KBWC also provided shelters to 315 daily wages earners including mutias, shopkeepers and labourers. 
While carrying out the mass distribution of masks, DC P.N. Thungon appreciated the denizens of Tirap for extending cooperation to the DA in making the lockdown successful and stressed on mandatory wearing of masks in public places and their washing  from time to time with disinfectant soaps. 
DC further informed that in case of violation of the mask-wearing directive, those found guilty will be punished by the town magistrate and police on the spot. DIPRO
