TEZU, May 28: In a daring and sensational case of jailbreak, four prisoners escaped from the District Jail by using bamboo ladder in broad daylight between 1.30 pm & 2 pm today, catching the jail authorities and police completely off guard.
Among the four fugitives, Kalaiso Mepo, Dolu Chakma and Lombu Thapa were convicted under different cases and Pritamber Bhuiya was an Under Trail Prisoner (UTP). According to SP Lohit DW Thongon, an FIR has been lodged at PS Tezu and a massive search operation has been launched sealing all the exit points with full combing operation in jungle, river sites and in and around the township.
Meanwhile, as per sources, the prisoners took advantage of isolation and used the makeshift ladder kept in the construction site of the jail premises to flee. This is not the first incidence of jail break in Tezu, as inmates also escaped by digging wall earlier.
