ROING, Oct 31: A foundation stone laying ceremony for a multipurpose indoor hall at Roing was held today at the PWD Bombgodown, near Police Colony, Roing. The foundation stone was laid by MLA Mutchu Mithi in the presence of DC Mitali Namchoom, HoDs, District Olympic Association (DOA) members and public.
Mithi, addressing the gathering, articulated that the initial steps towards realising the dream of making  the district a sports centre of the state, is being taken today. He expressed his thankfulness to the public who dream to see the town as a developed place with quality infrastructure and dedicated the multipurpose indoor hall to them.
The MLA also expressed his thankfulness to the District Administration, Sports department and DOA for creating a conducive environment for promotion of sports in the district.
Raju Mipi, District Sports Officer informed that the project is being funded under 'Khelo India' Scheme. The area will be developed as a special area games centre with manpower ( coaches) provided by the Sports Authority of India ( SAI) and dedicated to five sports disciplines of football, karate, archery, weightlifting and table tennis.
The project is being executed by the engineering wing of the Sports department at a cost of 8 crores and will be completed within 36 months.
