ITANAGAR, Jan 3: Demanding compensation as per government norms against the proposed Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, the Greenfield Airport Land Affected Peoples’ Forum of Hollongi (GALAFH) has threatened to call democratic movement if the state government fails to take positive measures.
Addressing reporters at Press Club, General Secretary GALAFH, Likha Taji said “If our demand is not fulfilled then we will launch democratic movement during the proposed foundation stone laying ceremony by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi at Itanagar,".
He said that land compensation should be disbursed as per the right to fair compensation and transparency in land acquisition Act 2013.
Expressing resentment over the report submitted by the committee headed by Land Management Minister, Taji alleged that according to the Rebia Committee, the said area of land has been described as government land, whereas at least 259 indigenous families are living in the area since time immemorial. Moreover, the current land compensation is not up to the norms whereas land donors of 12th NDRF headquarters at Hollongi under Home Ministry and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited were conferred fair compensation at the rate of Rs. 1014 per square metre.
“We are not against the Airport. We welcome such development but we want fair compensation as the said land is the sole source of survival for us,” he added.
Demanding fair compensation, Gaon Burah Nabam Taring added “No meetings or public hearing was conducted related to the Greenfield Airport and its compensation. How can they claim the land as government land?”
“Our demand is that government should pay compensation as per Central Acquisition Act to us and along with it provide jobs to the affected family members,” he added.
