ITANAGAR, Nov 20: Land affected people of Sibe Circle in Lower Siang have sought the intervention of the state government and NHPC to abstain from misusing of government funds in the name of compensation for the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydro Electric Project.
Addressing a press conference, spokesperson LEPSC, Tenken Nada claimed that the Centre is all set to release Rs 528 Crore against medicinal plants spread in the affected areas of the ongoing Lower Subansiri Hydro project. ‘There is no such huge availability of medicinal plants in the area so spending money in the name of compensation is mere eyewash to siphon off government funds by a few vested interests. We have urged the authority to re-certify and reconduct survey of the area so that such huge fund is not wasted in fake compensation.  Instead it could be used in proper development projects,’ he added.
The forum further alleged that NHPC is also going to release land compensation amount worth Rs 16 Crore to the affected people in Ossumpuri village of Sibe circle.

However, it is very surprising that the local MLA has identified community land as his own property to grab huge compensation amount that too without any concern for local villagers. Out of 39 affected people, most of the names are kith and kin of the local MLA, alleged the affected people while demanding the state government to hold back the compensation.

The alleged land is not under affected areas, the local representative has shown fake list just to grab the compensation, they said. Moreover, since the MLA has  no  land in the said village how can he claim community land of other village as his own property , asked Gike Nguri,  native of Ossumpuri village.
Further, he informed that they have submitted a complaint to the Chief Secretary, NHPC authority and concerned Deputy Commissioner related to the fake compensation issue. They also urged the authority to release the compensation to the genuine affected people of 615 hectares.
Meanwhile, speaking to this daily local MLA,  Kardo Nyicyor has categorically refuted the allegation and termed it as baseless without any iota of truth.  ‘The said compensation belongs to the villagers, I have nothing to do with it and it was the villagers of Ossumpuri who designated me on their behalf to put my name and collect the compensation when I was Anchal Samiti chairperson,’ he clarified.
He further stated that the said forum is ‘fake’ and he is going to file defamation against those who are spreading wrong information amongst the villagers for their personal benefits.
