ITANAGAR, Feb 15:  A former ASM, Langpu Yakia, of Tali Block, Kra-Daadi District has been awarded the Swachh Shakti Award under Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya campaign launched by the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation from January 1 to 31this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the award to Langpu Yakia, on February 12 at Kurukshetra, Haryana. Yakia is one of the two awardees from North-East region and among the 12 awardees across the country.
The objective of the campaign was to mobilize the households to paint their toilets and give them a facelift in order to further promote sustained usage, increase the sense of ownership and improve the visibility of toilets across the country.
Langpu Yakia has  inspired and led the campaign with great vigor and commitment to become the top performer from Arunachal Pradesh under the guidance of Executive Engineer, PHE & WS Division, Palin (Jamin). The State Government actively participated in the said campaign and altogether 6271 toilets were painted across the State. SBM (Grameen)
