PASIGHAT, Dec 4: The first State level Kho-kho championship 2019 (Under 17 Girls and Boys) began here at Outdoor Stadium with a colorful opening ceremony and participation from young players from 20 districts.
Chief Guest, Maj. General Ajai Verma,GOC,56 Infantry Division, Likabali, declared the championship open in the presence of Education Minister and  President Kho-kho Association of Arunachal Pradesh(KKAP), Er.Taba Tedir , Local MLA, Kaling Moyong, DC , Dr. Kinny Singh and SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh among others.
Tedir in his address spoke on the impetus and support given by the state government and Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, GoI, to promote traditional sport of Kho-kho and sports and games in general to nurture young talents and promote fitness .He added that it was heartening to see the growing popularity and revival of Kho-kho in the younger generation.He termed the event a milestone for the Kho-Kho Association of Arunachal Pradesh(KKAP).
Encouraging the young generation to pursue sporting excellence, he said that GoI will extend facilities and extend incentives like other sports and games in terms of scholarships and recruitment under sports quota for Kho-kho players too.
Further, speaking on the importance of the ancient Indian indigenous sport, he said that it promotes physical and mental agility and quick reflex,discipline, contributing towards a healthy society and all round development of the youth. The Asian Kho-Kho federation is also recognized in the International arena, he added.
Chief Guest, Maj. General Ajai Verma,GOC,56 Infantry Division, Likabali called for maintaining the  spirit of sportsmanship , healthy competition for the successful conduct of the maiden event. 
Local MLA, Kaling Moyong, who was the Guest of Honour,also called for making games and sports a way of life  for fitness and health and urged the youth to avoid sedentary life and lead a physically active life. 
He also sought the continued support of the sports loving public of Pasighat for the successful conduct of the ten-day sports event.
Tawang and Kurung Kumey team played the inaugural match. The final of the ten-day event will be played on December 10 after the knock out match. DIPRO
