PASIGHAT, Jul 22: The newly created Leparada district witnessed a two-day badminton extravaganza on July 20-21 at Town Club Basar which was organized by the Leparada District Badminton Association (LDBA).
The event was an under-19 tournament with Men’s singles and Men’s doubles. 29th Basar MLA, Gokar Basar was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony who assured to bring infrastructural development in the fields of sports in the district. President LDBA Toni Bam highlighted the achievements and challenges faced by the badminton association and submitted a memorandum to Basar who assured to look into the grievances of the association.
In the Men’s singles, Gumken Riram stood as winner and Goli Bam came as the first runners up. In the Men’s Single Open Category, veteran Tomar Ango defeated Jumto Riba and in the Men’s Open Double Category, star duo of Minjon Bam and Gumken Riram defeated the seasoned and experienced duo of Basar, Tojo Bam and Jumsen Bam. Gumken Riram, Jumto Riba and Dakto Riba were adjudged the best singles player in under-19 category, best overall player and emerging player of the tournament respectively. Winners in the tournament will proceed to the State level Badminton Championship at Itanagar, added LDBA.
