ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Good news for moviegoers as the first edition of  Itanagar International Film Festival (IIFF) will kick-start with a grand opening here at the DK convention on Friday.
The three-day long festival is expected to showcase the best of  cinema of the Northeast and East Asian countries.
Announcing this in a press conference at Arunachal Press Club here, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Entertainment Society of Goa, Ameya Abhayankar informed that around 51 films, which include Indian Panorama, World Cinema, and Far East Asian films, children’s films, documentary films, competition section films and outdoor screenings of critically acclaimed films of Indian cinema will be showcased during the three-day festival in six different screens.
He informed that ‘Bulbul Can Sing’ by Rima Das, which won the Special Jury Mention at the Berlin International Film Festival recently, will be the opening film, while another film from Assam, ‘III Smoking Barrels’, will be the closing film.
In addition to that, there will be a master class on cinematography by Aseem Bajaj, master class on photography by Shantanu Sheorey and a workshop on screenplay writing and filmmaking by Kamal Swaroop, to name a few.
“The IIFF is a celebration of the best of far East Asian cinema and cinema of the Northeast. The festival, through its carefully curated programmes and workshops, aims at engaging all audience groups that express interest in films,” said Abhayankar.
“We envision a world where creativity, knowledge and the power of cinema are accessible to all, creating the opportunity to blend the culture and heritage of the region. The festival will also put Arunachal Pradesh on the map of world cinema,” he added.
There shall be no festival registration fee. To attend the festival, all enthusiasts will have to register online on the official festival website-www.itanagarfilmfestival.org.
