ITANAGAR, Dec 4: India’s first MTB course cum expedition under NIMAS was flagged of jointly by 4 Corps Commander Lt Gen GS Sangha and Dr Mohesh Chai, Minister, Sports and Youth Affairs, during the Maitree Diwas organised at Rupa on Monday. DK Dinglow, Director Youth Affairs, and other senior officers of the district also attended the flag-off function.
The 15-member MTB Expedition team led by Col Sarfraz Singh, an Everester, will cover a distance of 250 kms in high altitude areas and will follow the route Bomdila, Dirang , Sela, Tawang and will finally culminate at Bumla which is above 15000 ft. It is pertinent to mention here that, four riders from Arunachal including Ahondo Menjo, representing the State, are participating in the expedition. Ahonda Menjo is one of the finest MTB riders of the country today.
MTB training will also be imparted to students and aspects related to acclimatisation procedures, high altitude medicine, uphill, downhill bike manoeuvring skills, bike repair, maintenance, river xg with the bike and methodology of preparation for professional MTB competitions.
This will be India’s first certified course and those who qualify can become MTB instructors in future.
