NAMSAI, Mar 6: For boosting oilseed production in Namsai, an aspirational district of the state, a day-long training-cum-awareness programme was organized under the banner of National Food Security Mission 2018-19 by NSC Guwahati at KVK, Namsai.
DDA Namsai SK Srivastava graced the occasion as chief guest and explained the scope and opportunities of oilseed production, processing and marketing through farmers’ cooperative society. He also assured all possible support for the promotion of acreage area under oilseed cultivation in the district and encouraged farmers to take advantages of agriculture related state and central government schemes.
Area Manager, NSC, Guwahati, LR Singh, expressed concern over poor production of oilseed in spite of suitable climatic conditions and ample cultivable land and encouraged the participants to adopt double cropping system by growing oilseed, vegetables and other short-duration crops  during winter to increase income.
Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Namsai Dr. Manish Kanwat explained the marketing strategies and branding of farm produce and assured all possible help for formation of farmers’ society in Namsai district. Production Officer, NSC, Guwahati Sanjiv Kumar explained the package and practices of rapeseed crop.
At the end of the programme which saw a total of 33 participants, rapeseed variety of NRCHB 101 was distributed under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan. KVK Release
