Itanagar, Feb 5: A High-Power Committee (HPC) meeting regarding construction of the proposed East West Industrial Corridor was held here at the Speaker's Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Assembly Speaker Passang D. Sona on February 4 last.
Chief Engineer, Highway T. Basar explained the status of the project in brief through a Power Point Presentation, while the Consultant of East West Industrial Corridor (EWIC) elaborated the Detailed Project Report (DPR) through a detailed Power Point Presentation. The alignment of East West Industrial Corridor (692.70 km) has been proposed in the foothills of the state along the boundaries of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The DPR consists of two phases (Phase - I: Pasighat to Bhairabkund - 539.00 km) and (Phase - II: Kanubari to Manmao - 153.70 km). The road alignment has been surveyed within the state boundary of Arunachal Pradesh for 2 lanes with paved shoulder road as per technical specifications of the National Highways Authority of India. The Right of Way (RoW) of this road shall be 24 mtr in open area and 20 mtr in built-up area and the entire project has been conceptualized for developing the area as an economic and industrial zone besides enhancing better connectivity in foothills region.
After a threadbare discussion, the meeting unanimously approved both the DPRs and decided to submit them to the state government for further forwarding to the central government during this current financial year for allocation of fund. It was also further resolved to acquire land for the purpose through voluntary donations without compensation as per Arunachal Pradesh Road Act.
All District Administrations and elected public leaders/MLAs have been urged to conduct meetings in their respective jurisdictions to apprise the public regarding the matter and submit Action Taken Report within a 15-day time. cehz, pwd PR
