PASIGHAT, Apr 20: Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government  of India, Deepak Khandekar  has stressed on the necessity  of  encouraging  entrepreneurship  and  increasing  livelihood opportunities for  the socio- economic  empowerment  of the  tribal communities of the state.
Khandekar, while chairing a meeting with the HoDs of various departments  here at Siang Guest House on  April 19  said that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is keen to extend support  towards training and  infrastructure  development for value addition  including marketing  in areas of  small scale industries, textiles, tourism, agri-horticulture, fishery, bamboo, animal husbandry, forest produce etc.
He asked  the state’s departments to submit proposals focussing on feasible income generating activities, which would boost economic activities and income levels. Proposals in education sector will also be given priority, he added.
Opining that East Siang district has huge potential in horticulture, bamboo, textiles, tourism & sericulture, he  further  called for value addition and training of SHGs and craftsmen to meet the market demands.The  Ministry will also facilitate training of  craftsmen by  arranging tie-up with NID( National Institute of Design). Earlier, the Tribal Affairs Secretary visited the Museum and Craft Centre here.
DC, Dr. Kinny Singh briefed on the proposals in education sector for the district. DDICDS, Ponung Ering Angu, in a PPT highlighted  the socio-economic profile of the district which included  the entrepreneurial examples of  Gur making units  in Mebo & Pasighat, Elam textiles industry, upcoming tamul plate manufacturing units & drinking water bottling plant at Niglok.
The DDICDS also informed that under District ICDS Cell of the Department of Women and Child Development,25 women SHGs  with around 400 members   under microfinance scheme have received vocational trainings.
ADC(HQ),  Taddo Borang, Jt.DHS,Dr. D.Raina, DMO, Dr. Kaling Dai, among others  were also present on the occasion. DIPRO
