TEZU, Apr 22: To tide over the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown, Lohit district has a stock of 4,193.75 quintals of rice, District Food & Civil Supply Office sources revealed.
Under various PMGKAY categories of food grains, about 1521.80 quintals, around 1764.95 quintals of normal quota and 907 quintals for general households are in disposal to feed the population. The PMGKAY additional rice allocation for all the beneficiaries under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) (AAY & PHH) at the rate of 5 kg per person per month free of cost for April, May & June is available and being distributed. Under this scheme, the said quota for the next three months will be distributed free to all National Food Security Act beneficiaries and under under normal quota, 35 kg per household having valid ration cards at the rate of Rs 3/kg is given, department sources informed. Under the General Category, 5 kg per individual at the rate of Rs 25/kg is being distributed to those having valid ration cards.
As a part of the PMGKAY and AAY schemes, Central government has also released a cash amount of Rs 1000 to each of these beneficiaries though bank transfers, disclosed DFC & SO Lohit Tomo Gamlin. The daily wage earners and migrant labourers not having ration cards can approach the District Labour & Employment Office or call at ERC emergency control room number 7628832600, he informed, adding that they will have to give details of family members, place of residence and Aadhar numbers for verification. “This is to ensure that genuine claims can be catered to at the earliest where 10 kg of rice, 1 kg dal, 1 litre of mustard oil and 1 kg  of salt are being distributed free of cost to meet their essential needs,” the official added.  

Meanwhile, the Department is working tirelessly and has ensured that enough stocks are made available in every Block of the district including Wakro, Sunpura and Tezu during the lockdown. “To deal with the current crisis, as a part of the open-market sale, we have already disbursed 30 quintals rice to each beneficiary at Wakro and Sunpura Blocks for this month,” Sub-Divisional Food & Civil Supply Officer revealed.
