ITANAGAR, Sep 19:Expressing deep concern over the large scale siltation and erosion along the Siang river in East Siang District that has caused large scale havoc in many villages of Mebo sub division, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) said that the State and Centre must work on a permanent solution including engaging in dialogue with China.
‘The marauding flood waters of Siang have entered into many villages and have also caused large scale erosion as a result of which many households had to be dismantled and moved to safer places,’ the General Secretary Tobom Dai.
The AAPSU opined that peculiar behavior of river Siang, the colour turning muddy and water flow becoming turbulent with waves like projection never witnessed before since last one year is causing more anguish and anxiety in the minds of the people of the Siang valley and the apathy of government both at the state and Centre in providing a concrete answer to the problem has added more confusion and sense of deprivation in the minds of the affected people.
The complexity of Siang deluge this time around which is mired in mystery cannot be solved by mere token of providing relief and the state government must up its ante seriousness by demanding the central government for announcing special packages keeping in long term measures for the safety and security of villages, large stretches of plain land, and riverine eco system, the union said in a release.
The union also demanded the central government for bringing permanent solution to the problem by engaging in dialogue with China to know the exact cause and necessary measures like construction of embankments, dredging of river Siang and at the same time send high-power central delegation to access the losses and in the intermittent provide relief and succor to all the affected villagers and villages.
