NAMSAI, Aug 3: Eminent sculptor and artist of repute Biren Singha from Assam is in Namsai district on the invitation of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. Singha upon arrival has visited important sites in the district which are either displaying or housing arts and artifacts of the Tai Khamti and Singpho communities. One of the nearest testimonies of his work is the statue of Bhupen Hazarika installed at Bolung near Roing.
Singha will be sculpting and installing statues which will showcase the rich culture and heritage of the two communities. One of the sites for such installation will be the Multipurpose Cultural hall at Namsai which upon completion will be a state of the art facility.
Mein said that his invitation to Singha who happens to be an old friend was to enable installing the creations of Singha which will mirror the land and people of Namsai district. He was speaking at a programme organised to welcome and familiarize Singha with a glimpse of local culture showcased by the team of Tai Khamti Heritage and Literary Society at the Golden Pagoda (Kongmu Kham). Mein gave a brief outline of the culture and tradition of the place and his endeavours to make the young generation imbibe the age old traditions for preservation as well as propagation.
