ITANAGAR, Jan 17: In preparation of the upcoming General Election 2024 and Assembly election in Arunachal Pradesh, a hands-on training and sensitization program on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was conducted for representatives of political parties. The event took place at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Arunachal Pradesh, located at Nirvachan Bhawan on Tuesday.
The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness about the comprehensive functioning of EVMs and VVPATs, providing briefings on the voting process within polling booths. Participants were also briefed on protocols and instructions from the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding EVM transportation and storage.
The State-Level Master Trainer (SLMT), R. K. Sona, delivered a comprehensive overview of EVMs and VVPATs through a PowerPoint presentation. Additionally, DIO Tad Issac demonstrated the operation of EVMs and VVPATs, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience.
Jt. Chief Electoral Officer, Liken Koyu, informed that the electoral roll for this year has increased by 2.87 percent. More than 8,82,860 voters are expected to participate in the election, comprising 4,33,760 male voters, 4,49,050 females, and 6 transgender individuals. He further added that the terms of the current Legislative Assembly would conclude on June 2nd this year. Koyu emphasized that the election process would commence before June 2nd, with the Election Commission having the sole authority to declare the election.
In his address, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Pawan Kumar Sain, said that this is the first time in the state that the Commission has conducted such a programme to ensure that there is no communication gap and any issue regarding EVM and VVPAT. “Our main purpose is to update on EVM and its functioning,” he said.
The CEO further said that all the DEOs are also instructed to call all the representatives of the Political parties and conduct a meeting. He also appealed to the media persons to think positively and said ‘your one story will give a positive impact in society’ and urged the people for a Free and Fair election.
Earlier, Ira Singhal, OSD to CEO, welcomed the media persons and urged everyone to be attentive during the programme.
