NARI, Feb 25:

In an alleged case of drunk driving gone horribly wrong, Gera Doye-a retired Veterinary employee from Seren Village under Nari Sub-Division was fatally hit by a truck at Jamjing under Dhemaji district in Assam on the evening of February 22 last.

An elderly man in his 70s, Doye succumbed to his injuries soon after the truck allegedly driven by a drunk driver hit him while on his way home.

Subsequently, the Ramle Banggo Students’ Union (RBSU) while taking serious exception to the death of a senior citizen appealed the Assam Police at Simen Chapori, under whose area the accident site falls, to take serious action against the culprit and set an exemplary punishment as per the law of the land.

Urging that the matter should be handled by the Assam Police without any biasness or prejudice, RBSU president Goli Doye asserted that police action in the matter would go a long way in building trust among the Arunachalee residents residing along the border areas.

In this context, RBSU also appealed the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to provide the aggrieved family members with some relief saying, ‘though retired, late Gera Doye had been in service of the government for much of his life and as such, the government owes his family members certain deeds of gratitude, especially in this time of distress.’Meanwhile, RBSU members also expressed their grief over the tragic incident and mourned the demise of Gera Doye.
