Itanagar, Aug 22: The first State Educational Advisory Council Meeting was held here at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education on August 20 last.
Conducted under chairpersonship of Secretary, (Education), Dr. Madhu Rani Teotia, the meeting saw attendance of the State Educational Advisory Council (SEAC) members which comprised various scholars, directors and principals of educational institutions.
Discussing primarily on the Cabinet decision taken on June 2 last on the status of education scenario in the state and the proposals for its strengthening, the meeting had threadbare discussions on the methods and means of framing the new State Educational Policy in consonance with the National Education Policy, keeping in mind the needs and aspirations of the state’s future generation. It was decided that an Expert Committee to draft the New State Education Policy would be constituted and renowned institutions like RGU, NERIST, NIT have been requested to nominate experienced academicians in this regard.
Accordingly, SEAC members gave their inputs with detailed deliberations and shared their experiences and highlighted the problems faced by the state’s education sector. After a thorough discussion on the ‘Draft New National Education Policy (NEP) 2019’ it was decided that the proposed new State Education Policy will have the national counterpart as its base with modifications as per requirements specific to Arunachal Pradesh. The important points that were discussed dealt with Policy Making, Regulatory Governance, Academic Standards Setting & Accreditation, Role of Technology and Comments of GoAP on the draft new NEP 2019 sent to MHRD, Gol. After careful discussion, the house unanimously decided that there will be regular SEAC meetings for the purpose of aiding and advising the State government on matters pertaining to educational policies & programmes.
The SEAC members who were present in the meeting included Additional Secretary (Education), SPD/Dy. SPD (ISSE), Director of Higher & Technical Education, Director of Secondary Education, Director of Elementary Education cum Director of SCERT, Director of State Council for Science & Technology, Director of NERIST, Director of SJETA, Ex Dean & Head, Department of Education RGU Professor Jayadeba Sahoo, HoD, Geography RGU Professor Kiran Kumari, Director of TCL and Principals of GHSS, Ganga, Doimukh & JNV, Gumto.
