PASIGHAT, Apr 11: Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and state’s Vidhan Sabha polls, DEO Tayi Taggu on Thursday said that East Siang is fully prepared for the “biggest festival of democracy”. He emphasized the importance of conducting the elections with utmost transparency, fairness and efficiency. Taggu urged all officers and employees entrusted to election duties to ensure that electoral process proceeds smoothly and without discrepancies. He informed that he has been physically conducting inspections of the facilities available at the venues/booths and holding series of meetings centered on ensuring adequate security measures, efficient expenditure monitoring and seamless coordination among different administrative units to felicitate a successful electoral process.  
During last three days (April-8 to 10) in a significant turnout, 41 voters from the 85+ age group and 15 PwD electors across East Siang have actively participated in the home-voting process, conducted by the East Siang DEO. For home voting, polling personnel visited the voter's residence and accepted votes in ballot papers. Citizens aged 85 years and above and those with a minimum of 40 per cent disability were asked for this facility.
Tamur Tatak, 87, from Rani Village casted his vote from home. Retired Assam Riffle soldier Tatak who fought against China during the Indo-China war 1962 was severely injured by Chinese grenade and unable to walk and hear. Tatak praised the district administration for facilitating home voting. The active participation of elderly voters underscores the significance of democratic engagement in the upcoming simultaneous elections, opined DC cum DEO Tayi Taggu.  
Meanwhile, according to ECI guidelines, phase wise trainings were imparted to all officials including magistrates and police personnel (entrusted to election duties). Process of commissioning of EVMs and SVEEP campaign were also completed and webcasting arrangement was made in the district. 
So far 868 persons applied for Postal Ballot, informed the DEO. Expenditure Observer and General Observer assigned by the ECI are stationed at Pasighat and closely monitoring all development. Situation is absolutely under control and nountoward incident has been reported so far. The district is fully set to host the voting process on April 19 without favour and fear, asserted the DEO. He also informed that all committees and teams constituted for smooth conduct of the ensuing elections are working sincerely and the respective nodal officers are reporting him on daily basis. 
The FST and SST teams along with police have seized 36,24,400 cash and IMFL worth 7,10,556 during Naka and surprise checking till filing of this report. According to election office source, a total of 48,946 eligible voters are set to determine the fate of three MLAs and one MP seats in the district.
