TEZU, Aug 29: A nearly three hundred capacity strong crowd comprising dwellers of the reserve forest area of Shivaji Nagar here in township today foiled attempts of the District Administration to demolish illegal structures that had cropped up on the Right of Way (ROW) of the road.
The demolition team headed by Assistant Commissioner Sunny Singh faced an irate mob mostly of women and young girls & boys who intercepted the road with logs and burnt tyres forbidding the team in bulldozing the illegal encroachments. Armed with the demolition order issued by the District Magistrate, the team marched ahead with bulldozers with adequate security but the furious dwellers shouted and abused the DC compelling the team to step back. “This is our land, we will die for it. If the administration finds these as illegal they should first dismantle other rampant structures coming out at various locations of the township”, yelled a women while charging the AC. Some of them also complained that they had not received any eviction notice from DC.
However AC clarified that when structures are illegally build, the question of notice does not arise. “We are not going to demolish any structure beyond ROW and the road along both sides of 7.5 meters width should be left free from encroachment for future widening of the road. Today or tomorrow it has to be cleared by any means,” he reiterated.
The team also comprised of forest officials, LRSO, Magistrate, political interpreters and Gaon Burahs.
