Roing, Jul 2: The District Level Under 17 (Girls and Boys) Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football tournament for Lower Dibang Valley district was inaugurated today by the Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom at the Meka government secondary school football ground.
Addressing the participating students and teachers, the DC advised all to take proactive part in school level games and sports, which could be furthered as a career opportunity in the future.
Taking into account the insufficient funds provided for the conduct of the tournament, the DC informed that it is being dovetailed with the CMSSY in the district, to meet the expenses of providing sports jersey, equipment, traveling expenses and fooding and lodging expenses as a means of encouragement to the participating teams.DDSE Ego Doye informed that there are 21 teams from the secondary and higher secondary schools of the district participating in the tournament. The winners from the 10 girls teams and 11 boys teams will represent the district in the state level tournament, he informed.
The DDSE also highlighted the meagre funds provided for conducting the tournament and hoped for better funding to encourage students to actively pursue sports and games activities. DIPRO
