ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, AVSM, SM on Wednesday called on Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu and discussed issues relating to Assam Rifle’s role in maintaining law and order situation in the state’s Eastern districts, battle against Covid-19 pandemic etc.
Meeting the Governor here at Raj Bhavan, the DG discussed the security scenario in Eastern Arunachal, humanitarian activities of Assam Rifles during the pandemic and opening up of an Assam Rifles Post at Gandhigram in Changlang district as a confidence building measure among the local population. While emphasising on promotion of a sense of security among the people in border areas particularly the TCL (Tirap-Changlang-Longding) region through model conduct and appropriate deployment of troops, Governor also underscored that besides engaging in security duties and counter insurgency measures, the paramilitary organisation must contribute positively towards the socio-economic development of these areas. The Governor, who has toured the Eastern districts intensively suggested for continuance of the integrated approach by the Assam Rifles personnel while dealing with local communities and strengthening the bonhomie with them.
Director General briefed the Governor about the Assam Rifles initiatives in containing militancy in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts where it has its units.
Calling on the Chief Minister when he was accompanied by Brig Tapan Lal Shah and Col Rajesh Singh, the Director General briefed him on the humanitarian activities carried out by Assam Rifles in the TCL region, particularly in battling the Covid pandemic. The DG also offered assistance in development of sports and education in the state. 
The Chief Minister thanked the visiting Army officers and lauded the Indian Army for being always the first in responding to any crisis and carrying out humanitarian services. PRO Raj Bhavan, CMO
