TEZU, Apr 16: A massive fire which broke out at midnight of April 15 here in the heart of the bazaar area completely razed around 19 shops including rented houses. No loss of life has been reported.
Cyber cafes, electronics shops etc were totally gutted to ashes. “Nothing is left, we have lost everything and are now on foot path. We are speechless and can’t say anything how to compensate or overcome these losses,” wept a woman shopkeeper, one of the victims. Explosion of two LPG cylinders aggravated the scenario, the victims said. Some of the shopkeepers alleged that fire broke out from a thatched hut adjacent to a hotel and the fire brigade also came without adequate water which exhausted after half an hour.
When contacted, OC Fire Service, B Roy informed that fire tenders called from Roing & Namsai were engaged to douse the blaze which saved rest of the shops from the inferno.
SDO K Karmakar and DDMO D Norbu rushed to the site and supervised fire brigades in extinguishing the fire. Inquiry and assessment of loss is going on and the government will try to compensate in every possible way, assured the DDMO
