ITANAGAR, May 8: The 19th death anniversary of Dera Natung, the former Minister who is remembered for his contributions in upliftment of the state’s education  sector was observed in a solemn manner by maintaining Covid-19 protocols here at the Dera Natung Government College premises on Friday.
The programme began with a floral tribute to his statue followed by a two-minute silence for the departed soul and Principal Dr. N.T. Rikam briefly narrated the late personality’s life and activities. 
Deeply engulfed in the mission of spreading education among the masses, he had a vision for revamping the education scenario in the state and was instrumental in opening of Science Stream in DNGC and keenly nurtured its growth & development. During one such noble mission for revamping education as a Minister, he died in a chopper crash near Bhalukpong on May 8, 2001 while heading towards Bomdila. 
He was an illustrious personality endowed with qualities of a great leader, thinker, social worker and above all a good human being. His untimely demise created a vacuum which could not be easily filled. In recognition to his immense contribution towards the state especially in the field of education, DNGC was named after him on May 27, 2001 by the state government. DNGC PR
