KHONSA, Jul 9: Training on major horticulture crops to provide alternative livelihood to opium cultivators of Lazu and Sinnu village was conducted at Lazu today.

While highlighting the importance of the training, District Horticulture Officer, Henrik Basar encouraged the opium cultivators to take up cultivation of horticulture crops instead for sustainable livelihood.

Urging them not to be disheartened post the massive opium-poppy destruction carried out by the District Administration and Police department earlier this year, the official underscored the ill effects of opium on society and the upcoming generation.

EAC  I/c.  Lazu DK Thungdok while referring to districts like Tawang, Dirang and Bomdila areas which solely depend upon horticulture cash crops and are reaping economic benefits, urged the locals to emulate them.
