CHOWKHAM, Sep 28: Deprived depositors of Postal Department have called for immediate intervention of Directorate of Postal Services, Shillong into the gross irregularities in the Chowkham Sub Post Office.
Samawati Mannoi, a RPLI depositor has alleged huge anomaly in the Chowkham postal service causing much inconvenience to the poor and downtrodden people of the circle in getting back their hard earned deposited money in the Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) scheme. Regrettably, when the matured sum amount was demanded, the Sub Post Master (SPO) has cited various excuses and till date the Postal Dept miserably failed to give the amount and the Passbook, alleged the complainant.
“Instead of the amount, Ranjana Singh, the then SPM, Chowkham assured her a job as Safai Wala (Sanitary worker) in the dept at a fixed monthly salary of Rs 1375. However, the service was discontinued subsequently which is surprising.
In another case, retired Dr RK Vershney is equally harassed and fooled on his sum assured in spite of two years of completion of his sum amount maturity. Regrettably he is being kept in the dark by the Postal Dept.
Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) scheme was introduced in 1995 for the benefit of rural populace to extend insurance cover to people living in rural areas with special emphasis on weaker sections and women workers as a result of the recommendation of the Official Committee for Reforms in the Insurance Sector. But what is happening here is against the avowed aim of the scheme.
