KHONSA, Mar 19: Tirap District Election Officer (DEO), Ira Singhal, convened a consultative meeting with representatives from all political parties in Khonsa to ensure free and fair elections in the region.
The meeting, held in Khonsa, focused on briefing attendees on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), with specific instructions directed towards magistrates and nodal officers. Ms. Singhal emphasized the critical importance of maintaining a fair and transparent electoral process in Tirap, a district often beset by challenges.
During her address to the political party representatives, the DEO cum District Commissioner distributed comprehensive MCC guidelines and urged adherence to these regulations to guarantee the conduct of free and fair elections. She further stressed the responsibility of Returning Officers (ROs) in strictly enforcing the model code of conduct, particularly emphasizing the need to curb the influence of money and alcohol during the electoral process.
SP Tirap, Singjatla Singpho, provided additional guidance to the assembled representatives of major political parties, including BJP, INC, NCP, NPP, and PPA, on the specifics of the model code of conduct and outlined the expected conduct during election rallies throughout the district.
In a significant development, official reports confirmed that on March 18, the Flying Squad team, led by CO Borduria and OC PS Borduria, successfully seized an amount totaling Rs. 2,83,000, further underscoring the commitment to maintaining electoral integrity.
The consultative meeting saw the participation of several key officials, including ADC Deomali, Ms. Vishakha Yadav, Tana Bapu, ADC Khonsa, CO Khonsa, Laxmi Dodum, CO Dadam, Dr. Metung Taku, CO Borduria, Yowa Anya, CO Bari, Basip Noklem Wangjen, along with Nangram Pingkap, PD(DRDA).
The collaborative efforts demonstrated in today's meeting reflect the shared commitment of all stakeholders to ensure a democratic and impartial electoral process in Tirap.
