KHONSA, May 23:Sena Medal awardee, Late Naik Subidar Wanghian Lowang who died on May 21 last due to heart stroke was laid to rest today with full military honours by the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles at Moktowa village.

Lowang was a part of surveillance operation in high altitude terrain in Reasi, J&K on 14th August, 2009 when his team came under heavy automatic fire from terrorists from a dominating height. Displaying initiative of highest order, he retaliated and closed onto the terrorists and killed one terrorist. For his brave act beyond the call of duty, he was awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry).

In a condolence message, all four legislators of Tirap, Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon and SP Jitendra Kumar Meena among others expressed their profound sorrow at the sudden demise of the young brave soldier and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The Moktowa village Chief Tewang Lowang, Gaon Buras, Panchayat members, bereaved family and relatives praised Khonsa Battalion Assam Rifles for their support during this difficult time.
